After debuting at the Glenroy Plains Produce Enduro, SMU Racing’s new Jimco is ready for its first Australian Off Road Championship event when it tackles the Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400 this weekend. After a first up drive at Glenroy and subsequent ironing out of a few 991b_smsmall issues, the team is looking forward to the remainder of 2011 with great enthusiasm.Driver Matt Hanson, after limited driving in 2010, said that the new car was all that he expected and more.“Glenroy was the first drive of the car for us literally – the first drive being from the trailer to the scrutiny shed. We had a ball as we learned what the car was capable of and think that as we get used to the new machine that some finishes are not too far away”, said Hanson.

“Out of the box the new Jimco was terrific. Racer Imports, Jimco and Shane Cottee really have done a great job to get the car to where it is first up and Shane Wilson has really built an outstanding engine. We had a few small teething issues, but these have all been sorted now and our aim for Pines 991d_smthis weekend is a finish.”

“2012 is still the aim and again we will be using Pines as another test as we come to grips to what the new vehicle can and can’t do.”

“The team really enjoyed Glenroy as a venue and a race track and now look forward to Pines where again dust is not a factor. The Pines has always been an event for the spectators with great viewing and some close up racing. The Dash for Cash is a terrific spectacle and with the weather looking the most promising it has in years, it should be a top weekend.”

Leigh ‘Gettin it Done’ Wells has been busy keeping the team’s facebook page updated with all that has been going on at SMU HQ whilst the new SMU racing website www.smuracing.com.au is under construction as we speak and shouldn’t be too far away.991c_sm
